Madman Ahmadinejad tells the truth: Calls oil price hikes ‘manipulated’

Specifically he said, “At a time when the growth of consumption is lower than the growth of production and the market is full of oil, prices are rising, and this trend is completely fake and imposed.” He ironically attributed the oil price manipulation to “visible and invisible hands.” ...

Ahmadinejad underlined the fact that “The price of oil is skyrocketing in order to secure economic and political gains.” Could that possibly be? Yes. “Speculation is the reason behind the increasingly
high prices of crude, not a lack of supply,” the ‘provocative’ president added.

Seems to be a new slogan circulating on the right.
Seymour Hersh on Iran in the New Yorker :

A Democratic senator told me that, late last year, in an off-the-record lunch meeting, Secretary of Defense Gates met with the Democratic caucus in the Senate. (Such meetings are held regularly.) Gates warned of the consequences if the Bush Administration staged a preëmptive strike on Iran, saying, as the senator recalled, “We’ll create generations of jihadists, and our grandchildren will be battling our enemies here in America.” Gates’s comments stunned the Democrats at the lunch, and another senator asked whether Gates was speaking for Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney. Gates’s answer, the senator told me, was “Let’s just say that I’m here speaking for myself.”

The Israel Insider thinks that Barack Obama's birth certificate is a fake.

The "birth certificate" claimed by the Barack Obama campaign is not certified as authentic and appears to be a photoshopped fake.

The image, purporting to come from the Hawaii Department of Health, has been the subject of intense skepticism in the blogosphere in the past two weeks. But now the senior spokesman of that Department has confirmed to Israel Insider what are the required features of a certified birth document -- features that Obama's purported "birth certificate" clearly lack.
National Review , which spoke to the same spokesman at the Hawaii Department of Health, doesn't buy it.

I spoke to Ms. Okubo late Wednesday afternoon, and she said she had seen the version of Obama’s certificate of live birth posted on the sites. While her office cannot verify the information on a form without the permission of the certificate holder (Obama), she said "the form is exactly the same" and it has "all the components of a birth certificate" record issued by the state. In other words, she sees no reason to think the version posted on Obama's web site and Daily Kos is not genuine.
The true wingnuts will go to their graves thinking that Obama was born in Kenya.
Israel Prodding U.S. To Attack Iran

Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen leaves Tuesday night on an overseas trip that will take him to Israel, reports CBS News national security correspondent David Martin. The trip has been scheduled for some time but U.S. officials say it comes just as the Israelis are mounting a full court press to get the Bush administration to strike Iran's nuclear complex.
This is such a bad idea that I guess it is inevitable. Commander Jeff Huber, U.S. Navy (Retired) at Military.com puts it this way:

One problem with using the rational actor model to forecast what the George W. Bush administration may do next is that the model wasn’t designed to analyze people referred to as "the crazies in the basement." There is near universal agreement, for example, that for the U.S. to attack Iran would be the ultimate act of insanity. Unfortunately for us, the more insane any given course of action is, the more likely it is that the Cheney-centric Bush administration will pursue it.
The most troubling passage for me in Huber's article is this one:

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a spin off of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), recently published a report by its Task Force on the Future of U.S.-Israel relations that says the U.S. and Israel should discuss policy options that include "preventive military action" against Iran. Among the report's signatories were Tony Lake and Susan Rice, two of Barack Obama's key foreign policy advisers.
According to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll Barack Obama has won over more than half of Hillary Clinton's supporters. Nonetheless, about 23% of them presently plan to vote for John McCain. The rest are undecided or leaning toward other candidates. Obama will no doubt be able to win over some of these, but some of them will be difficult. Like these former Clinton but now McCain supporters:

"It sounds to me like a Middle Eastern type of name and whether or not he's born here in the United States, he doesn't seem like, to me, somebody who is trustworthy," Hartle said in a telephone interview. "You can't trust anybody these days, so who's to say he's not a terrorist and we just don't realize it yet?"
"I refuse to vote for an Arab to be in my White House," said retired salesman Dean Johnson of Lanett, Ala. "That is the only factor. Otherwise, you couldn't break both my legs and make me vote for a Republican."

George Carlin: Touched by an Atheist

Oh and before I forget: Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker, Tits
Here we thought that Barack Obama is a Muslim, or possibly a Christian, and it turns out that he worships a monkey god. Or at least he carries one as a charm.

As a new member of the atheist blogroll I do not believe in the monkey god Hanuman. Although I suppose I could since the new Pew poll shows that 21% of self-identified atheists believe in God. Unclear on the concept, I suppose.

I know that I have been light on the blogging lately so to make it up to you here is a photo of Natalie Portman holding a gun.

Iran: Stop nukes by bombing oil wells, neocons suggest

To be sure, in a tight world oil market, attacking Iran's oil infrastructure carries an obvious risk of causing world oil prices to soar and hurting consumers in the United States and other oil-importing countries.... If the choice is between higher oil prices and a Middle East with several nuclear powers, higher oil prices and reduced economic growth are not clearly the greater evil.
An idea so spectacularly stupid that only a couple of hyper-educated think-tank neocons could have come up with it.

The latest Newsweek poll shows Obama leading McCain by 15 points. I wonder if Joseph Cannon still thinks that "ALL Obama supporters are PSYCHOTIC!" At any rate, it looks like Obama just might be able to win without his support.

John McCain has long been a major player in a radical militaristic group driven by an ideology of global expansionism and dominance attained through perpetual, pre-emptive, unilateral, multiple wars.

This article should be carefully read by any Hillary Clinton supporters, or anyone else, who might even be considering sitting out this election, or voting for anyone other than Barack Obama.
Governor's daughter comes out as teen-age lesbian

Katherine Patrick, 18-year old daughter of Massachusets Governor Deval Patrick has come out as a lesbian. Good for her. As you know, this blog is pro-gay, and particularly pro-teenage-lesbian. If Katherine should choose to post photos of herself kissing other teen-age lesbians on her Facebook page we will happily cover the story.
Katherine, who will enroll in Smith College in the fall, says she began feeling attractions to women during the summer between her sophomore and junior years of high school. (She graduated from St. Andrew’s School in Delaware.) She wasn’t sure if that meant she was a lesbian or bisexual, despite the urging of a close friend to, "pick a label, pick a label." But it wasn’t until after she joined her father in last year’s Boston Pride Parade - the first time in the country’s history that a sitting governor joined Pride festivities -that she became comfortable with the lesbian label.

Obama threat to virgins!

An Obama presidency would signal the final salvo by the Left in the culture wars. Obama’s advance troops have already taken over our college campuses, have bound and gagged our conservative professors, have ravished our virgins, have pillaged our stores of wisdom, and have ensconced themselves in the thrones of power in deans’, presidents’ and department heads’ offices.

Cute couple.

Presumptive Republican White House nominee John McCain said Thursday he would like to see a manned mission to Mars as part of a "better set of priorities" for NASA that would better engage the public.

I actually agree with McCain on this and Martian Chronicles is a great book and all but I think John McCain is over-estimating the political appeal of this. Or he's just a doddering old man who can't stay on message.

Parents and Christian groups in Clovis say a picture of a gay couple included in a high school yearbook is inappropriate and offensive.
I used to be against gay marriage, favoring the more "moderate" approach of civil unions. Marriage has been between men and women for thousand of years. Many people feel very strongly against marriage for gays, mainly for religious reasons. And, most of all, I felt that the rightwing in this country would use it as a religious wedge issue for decades to come, as they have and will. But none of these reasons are good enough. So I'm voting for gay marriage in California in November.

This is one of those rare news stories that actually makes one stop and think. Will the so-called civilized world leave these people alone? What will happen over the next 100 or 1000 years if these people are left to themselves? Will they continue much as they have over the next 1000 years while the rest of humanity become cyborgs and fly to the stars?
