Impeach Cheney not Bush

The primary wingnut defense of the sales campaign that got us into the war in Iraq is that it was just bad intelligence. Now the Pentagon's own Inspector General's report shows that this simply is not true. There is a word for "purposely manipulated intelligence" and that word is "lies". There is apparently an attempt to lay the blame for this on Douglas Feith but clearly the trail leads to Donald Rumsfeld and, above all, Dick Cheney.

CBS: A "very damning" report by the Defense Department's inspector general depicts a Pentagon that purposely manipulated intelligence in an effort to link Saddam Hussein to al-Qaida in the runup to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, says the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Washington Post: Intelligence provided by former undersecretary of defense Douglas J. Feith to buttress the White House case for invading Iraq included "reporting of dubious quality or reliability" that supported the political views of senior administration officials rather than the conclusions of the intelligence community, according to a report by the Pentagon's inspector general.

Not only is Cheney likely involved in the campaign of lies that led to an unneccessary war but the evidence suggests that he was behind the smearing of Joseph Wilson and the outing of Valerie Plame.

If Bush is impeached it is highly unlikely that he would be convicted in the Senate. And if he was we would have President Cheney--a very scary thought. Impeach Cheney. (And while we're at it, impeach Alberto Gonzales; there is a good deal of documentary evidence linking him to the legal justifications for torture and mistreatment of prisoners.
