They tried to Swift Boat Dr. Ellsberg also, but failed miserably.

Actually anon, i wasn't old enough to know about the pentagon papers so i didn't "forget" anything.

More to the point, ellsberg betrayed his country when it was popular to do so. that doesn't take any courage, it doesn't make him a hero. in fact, he took a hypothetical position paper and presented it as fact to the ny times.
The dysfunctional nixon administration and a sympathetic hippie public is the only reason why he's not in prison right now.
the time of the flower children is over anon, don't go away mad, just go away.

Actually Ellsberg is a true patriot who was willing to go to prison to bring the truth about the Vietnam War to the public.

Rhino is simply one more right-winger who thinks that all liberals are traitors.

Well gary you're wrong again.

I don't think that all liberals are traitors, however anyone who steals top secret documents from his government (especially during wartime) and then exposes them to the media and his countries enemies is in fact a traitor.

And ellsberg wasn't willing to go to prison to bring out any truth, which is why he went into hiding after he committed his crimes. He only turned himself (many months later) because he was about to get caught anyway.

Plus, he didn't expose ANY truth at all. the "pentagon papers" was a postion paper, a POSSIBLE scenario discussed by the kennedy/johnson administration.

Do some homework gary, i'm tired of educating you and your ilk.

I suggest you read Ellsberg's autobiography "Secret" which I did recently. Also the Pentagon Papers were not a "position paper." They were a multi-volume history of the Vietnam War, showing that it was based on lies, as is the war in Iraq.

Hey gary, good idea. I want to know the truth about ellsberg, so i'll read his AUTOBIOGRAPHY. I'm sure it's an unbiased forthright account of the facts.

Do you even realize how ridiculous that is?

How could the pentagon papers be a HISTORY of the war when they were written DURING the war?

Please Gary buy an encyclopedia or something, look something up that has factual information instead of only looking on the conspiracy sites. You need to educate yourself because i'm starting to lose interest. i'm not trying to insult you with this, but i'm really feeling like i'm wasting my time here because you're so uninformed.

Rhino, the Pentagon Papers were a lengthy account of the early history of the war in Vietnam. You are the one revealing your ignorance. From Wikipedia:
"a 47 volume, 7,000-page, top-secret United States Department of Defense history of the United States' political and military involvement in the Vietnam War from 1945 to 1971, with a focus on the internal planning and policy decisions within the U.S. Government." Daniel Ellsberg was involved in creating the Pentagon Papers and is one of the very few who have read the whole thing. He also spent time in Vietnam.

Rhino, responding to your deleted post: I am not basing my comments solely on Ellsberg's book. I am old enough to remember much of this first-hand.Perhaps Ellsberg was a traitor, from one perspective. So was Patrick Henry. I would consider him a patriot.

i deleted the post because i didn't really want to continue. You are old enough to remember when you got all your news from only a few sources, where there was no check on the nightly news or the ny times, when there was no perspective. You had an excuse for your ignorance then, but not any longer.

Gary, try harder. my statements were not incorrect, the "pentagon papers" that we (the public) saw was not the historical documents from 1945 or whatever, the parts that were leaked by ellsberg were the analysis pieces, opinon not fact.
Like many on the far left you are quick to make an ass out of yourself. I many indeed be an idiot, but at least i'm not a traitor like ellsberg and his supporters.

You just can't admit you were wrong. Ellsberg gave the Times a copy of all 7000 pages, most of which was well-documented history.
